Tottenham reveal seventh summer signing as Destiny Udogie deal confirmed

Tottenham have confirmed Destiny Udogie as their seventh summer signing on a five-year deal, with him being loaned back to Udinese for the 2022/23 season. Spurs have already welcomed Ivan Perisic, Fraser Forster, Richarlison, Yves Bissouma, Clement Lenglet and Djed Spence to the squad, in the last few months.

Antonio Conte has been working this summer to strengthen his squad with new arrivals, giving him strength in depth. Tottenham's season got off to a flying start, with a 4-1 win against Southampton and their second game ended in a 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge.

Now the Lilywhites have also signed Udogie, although they will have to wait until 2023/24 when he links up with the first-team squad. The 19-year-old made 35 Serie A appearances and eight goal contributions last season, featuring as a left midfielder and a left-back.

football.london reported earlier this month, that Tottenham were confident in signing the Italian and on Monday reported that the deal was understood to cost around £15million, with a potential extra £3million in add-ons. Udogie was undergoing his medical on Monday morning at Hotspur Way and putting the final touches to his deal before heading back to Udinese for training on Tuesday.

The youngster already opened up on his strengths and weakness, earlier this year. "I love to attack, I love to attack. I have a very good physique, so I attack with my physique," he admitted on The Italian Football Podcast. "Also with my feet I like to dribble, skill and some pace. I think these are my best qualities."

On areas of his game he can improve, he added: "Almost everywhere to be honest. More to be focused on the 90 minutes, all the game in defending, following the man when they do one-two. A lot of these but these are the most important."

With his experience as a midfielder and defender, he could be perfect as a wing-back in Conte's side. However, there will be competition for Udogie, with Ryan Sessegnon and Perisic already battling for a spot down the left flank.

This rest of this season gives him the chance to continue his development and hopefully then move to the capital and start a successful new chapter at Tottenham.
