Jack Clarke has left Tottenham Hotspur and completed a permanent move to Championship side Sunderland. Struggling for match action in N17 since his move to the club from Leeds United, the winger returns to the northeast on a four-year deal after a successful loan spell with the Black Cats last season.
Initially remaining with Spurs for the first part of the 2021/22 campaign as he looked to impress new manager Nuno Espirito Santo, Clarke departed in January and headed to the Stadium of Light. Getting some much-needed minutes under his belt, the York-born star played his part in Sunderland winning promotion via the League One play-offs after delivering some key performances in the run-in.
Coming to the attention of a number of clubs in 2018/19 after wowing in Marcelo Bielsa's Leeds team after coming through the system at Elland Road, Spurs won the race for the youngster's signature in July 2019 in a deal worth around £10million. Immediately returning to Leeds on loan before he headed back to Tottenham in January due to a lack of playing time, the player finished the term on loan at QPR.

Clarke did make his professional debut for Spurs the following campaign in the Europa League under Jose Mourinho, before again heading out on loan in January as he linked up with Stoke City. The player's loan spell did start off full of promise but injury, unfortunately, curtailed his time in Staffordshire.
Always facing a key decision over the player this summer with only one year remaining on his contract, Clarke now departs Tottenham Hotspur Stadium permanently. Making 20 appearances during his Sunderland loan spell, the 21-year-old will be hoping his switch to Wearside helps get his career back on track after a frustrating three years.
Speaking to Sunderland's website about his permanent move, Clarke said: "I’m absolutely delighted to be back because I really enjoyed my time here last season. It felt right to return and after winning promotion to the Championship last season, I’m excited to play my part in the next step of our journey.
"We have a good balance in the squad and a great bond in the dressing room, so I believe we can continue to progress as a team and enjoy another successful season.”
