Mikel Arteta faced the media to provide an update on the status of Gabriel Magalhaes ahead of the game against Newcastle United on Sunday at St James’ Park. The Brazilian was substituted against Chelsea on Tuesday night after a number of incidents where he needed attention.
The problem stemmed from a collision with goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale during Noni Madueke’s goal which was Chelsea’s only breakthrough of the game. football.london understands that it was an ankle injury he sustained and he received treatment in the dressing room before conducting post-match media duties with international broadcasters as normal.
Speaking at London Colney, Mikel Arteta told football.london and other media in attendance: "We will have to see tomorrow how he is. He couldn't finish the game, so that's obviously a big sign. We will see how he is tomorrow."

Jakub Kiwior was the Brazilian’s partner for the game against Chelsea. Rob Holding replaced Gabriel, the experienced defender had been the Arsenal starting right centre-back in William Saliba’s absence but may now have lost his place in the side.
Newcastle have been in great scoring form of late and Mikel Arteta will hope that his starting option is indeed available. He will be without Saliba again after the Arsenal manager also ruled out the Frenchman again from this weekend's game but not the whole season yet.
