Manchester United have confirmed that they've reached a deal in principle with Real Madrid to sign Casemiro.
The 30-year-old Brazilian midfielder is expected to sign a four-year contract with the Red Devils, plus the option of an extra year in a deal worth up to £60million. Casemiro leaves Madrid after nine seasons, having earned five Champions League winners' medals and been part of three La Liga title-winning teams.
United's acquisition ends their long-running search to sign a defensive midfielder, which was highlighted as a problem position for new manager Erik ten Hag just two games in to the 2022-23 Premier League season. Ten Hag had been desperate to add reinforcement to his midfield after suffering humiliation back-to-back defeats to Brighton and Brentford.
