Two people have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a man was left in a critical condition following an attack in Withington on Sunday afternoon (May 21).
The victim, a 37-year-old man, was reportedly assaulted after intruders stormed an address on Heysham Avenue at around 4.40pm and was rushed to hospital from the scene with serious and life-threatening injuries.
There were initial reports that the victim had been stabbed in the attack, however Greater Manchester Police have said his severe injuries are not consistent with the use of a knife or blade.

Later on Sunday night, a 20-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and having possession of a Class B controlled drug. A 19-year-old woman was also arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. They both remain in custody for questioning.
Police and paramedics, as well as an air ambulance that landed nearby, were scrambled to the scene and a cordon was put in place on Halebank Avenue and Heysham Avenue.
Detectives and crime scene investigators were also pictured at the scene and have remained there throughout Monday (May 22).
The victim remains fighting for his life in a critical condition in hospital, with police believing the assault was 'targeted' at this time and continuing to follow lines of enquiry.
