BREAKING: Major police investigation underway after suspected shooting in middle of street

An investigation is underway after a suspected shooting on a street in Stockport.

Gunshots were reportedly blasted on Dorac Avenue, in the Heald Green area, at around 9.45pm on Sunday night (March 12). Emergency services swarmed the small, residential street following the suspected shooting.

Police said no injuries were reported. The incident is currently being treated as 'isolated' and there is not believed to any threat 'to the wider community'.

Patrols have been stepped up in the area as an investigation continues, the force said. In a first statement on the shooting issued today (Wednesday), a Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: "At around 9:45pm on Sunday 12 March, Greater Manchester Police were called to reports of a suspected firearms discharge at a property on Dorac Avenue, Cheadle.

"Officers attended but thankfully no injuries were reported. This is being treated as an isolated incident and it is believed there is no threat to the wider community.

"Extra officers have been deployed to the area to carry out enquiries and offer reassurance to local residents."

Fire crews were also called to the scene to initial reports of a blaze 'involving a property' but said crews found 'no signs of a fire or smoke'. A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: "Just before 9.30pm on Sunday 12th March, three fire engines from Wythenshawe and Cheadle fire station were called to reports of a building fire involving a property on Dorac Avenue, Cheadle.

"Crews arrived quickly at scene. Firefighters checked the property and found no signs of fire or smoke. Firefighters were in attendance for around twenty minutes."
