Harry Kane has equalled Wayne Rooney's record and become England's all-time joint-top goal scorer. The striker bagged his 53rd international goal during England's clash against France in the quarter-finals at the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar.
Wayne Rooney broke Sir Bobby Charlton's record (49) in 2015, which had previously stood for 45 years. Harry Kane played alongside Rooney in the same match as he broke the record, after coming on as a second half substitute vs Switzerland.
Kane opened the scoring in that 2-0 win, but Rooney's penalty placed him atop of the all-time England scoring leaderboard. The England captain has now equalled Rooney's record as he took his own England tally to 53 with the opportunity of breaking the record still available for the Tottenham Hotspur star.
