Chelsea draw Borussia Dortmund in Champions League last-16 as Graham Potter handed challenge

Chelsea have drawn Borussia Dortmund in the last-16 of the Champions League. Graham Potter's men will not take on their German opponents until February but know they will face a stern test against a team that held Manchester City to a 0-0 draw in the group stage.

The Blues sealed qualification for the knockout stages of the competition with a game to spare as they finished top of Group E ahead of AC Milan, Red Bull Salzburg and Dinamo Zagreb. The Blues rebounded from picking up just one point from their opening two Champions League games of the season, while Thomas Tuchel was relieved of his duties following the first.

Dortmund finished runners-up behind Man City in their group, ahead of both Sevilla and FC Copenhagen. The Bundesliga side fell at the group stages in 2021/22 but reach the quarter finals in the season before.

The first leg of the round of 16 will be played on February 14, 15, 21 or 22 and the second leg on March 7, 8, 14 or 15. Chelsea will play at home during the second leg due to winning their group.

It will be the first time the sides face each other but there will be a degree of familiarity between the sides. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Christian Pulisic both plied their trade at the Westfalenstadion while Thorgan Hazard is set to make his return to west London.

The Blues avoided the likes of PSG and Inter Milan as Manchester City and Tottenham were drawn against RB Leipzig and AC Milan respectively.
