Chelsea have confirmed that Armando Broja is set to miss the rest of the 2022/23 season after picking up an injury against Aston Villa at the weekend. Following a scan it was revealed that the forward has ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament and will require surgery, as football.london reported on Tuesday.
Broja went down in the opening half of the clash against the Villans in Abu Dhabi when his knee appeared to buckle when contending with Ezri Konsa. The severity made itself clear as the Albania international screamed in agony and left the field via a stretcher after a number of minutes.
The 21-year-old underwent assessment upon the club's return to England and will now go through the rehabilitation process with the club's medical department.

Chelsea's statement read: "Having sustained a knee injury during the first half of Sunday's friendly against Aston Villa, Armando underwent further assessment following the club's return to England. Scan results from those assessments have unfortunately confirmed an anterior cruciate ligament rupture and that surgery will be required.
"Following the operation, Armando will work closely with the club's medical department during his rehabilitation and is expected to miss the remainder of the 2022/23 campaign."
Keep your head up and recover well, Armando.

While not a regular starter, Broja had enjoyed a promising start to the season for the Blues, making 18 first team appearances.
The forward, who was on loan at Southampton last term, has featured in all but one of Graham Potter's matches in charge of Chelsea and started consecutive games against Manchester City and Newcastle to end the first portion of the season before the break for the World Cup.
