BRIT Awards 2023 – Pregnant Jessie J, Harry Styles and Sam Smith lead red carpet glamour

The 2023 BRIT Awards kicked off in style at London's O2 arena tonight and the nominees and celebrity guests pulled out all the stops for their red-carpet looks.

For the first time, the awards are being held on a Saturday and will see the likes of Harry Styles, Tom Grennan, The 1975, Fred Again... and Lost Frequencies & Calum Scott battle it out for the famous award.

This year, the BRITs infamous afterparties are making a return after three years due to the coronavirus pandemic, which will see the artists flock to the best party in the music business.

Ahead of the event, experts predicted that Harry Styles who recently collected two awards at the Grammy's could have a clean sweep this year.

Television stars Maya Jama and Roman Kemp were among some of the first celebs to step out, with the Love Island host looking sensational in a figure-hugging dress.

The Love Island host swept her raven tresses into a slicked-back style as she struck a pose while rocking a full face of glamourous makeup.

Maya accessorised her look with a pair of striking gold earrings which cascaded freely down the side of her face.

Hitmaker Sam Smith certainly left onlookers stunned with their jaw-dropping latex outfit which featured bold shoulders and calf outbursts causing them to struggle as they walked down the red carpet.

Four-time nominee Harry Styles left fans in awe as he stepped out ahead of his performance and nervous wait to discover whether he'd be walking away with a handful of gongs.

Harry, 29, looked sensational as walked the red carpet wearing a glamorous black suit which included a large ruffled flower attached to a choker around his neck.

The cheeky Cheshire chap decided to brave the cold and reveal his chiselled chest underneath his blazer, opting to ditch a t-shirt while rocking a pair of flared trousers and his signature rings across his fingers.

Ex-Little Mix star Leigh-Anne Pinnock made her solo BRITs debut on the red carpet and didn't hold back as she ensured all eyes would be on her for the occasion.

The singer risked a major wardrobe malfunction as she wore a dress barely fit for purpose which just about covered her chest in a bold orange number.

Pregnant singer Jessie J recently opened up about not being invited to the awards but made a comeback on the red carpet as she proudly displayed her blossoming baby bump.

The singer rocked a red crop top and matching trousers which saw her bump on full display as she received warm celebratory messages on her pregnancy.

In a shocking twist, S Club 7's Jo O'Meara, Rachel Stevens and Tina Barrett walked side by side days after teasing a potential reunion for the mega-group.

Jo opted to rock a gothic look with a floor-length black dress featuring a flowing sleeve which draped across the floor and striking black eyeliner, highlighting her peepers.

Meanwhile, Rachel opted for a bold red dress featuring a jaw-dropping shoulder display with her outfit cinching in at her waist as she rocked a classic smokey eye for the event.

Tina looked elegant in a black number with a cut across the shoulder and a bold thigh split, showcasing her toned legs as she slipped her feet into a pair of killer stilettos.

Former I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! hunk Roman looked smart in an all-black number as he smiled for the hundreds of cameras.

Although the event is back in full swing this year, it hasn't been without its fair share of controversy as buzz for this year's show began last month, mainly thanks to the backlash surrounding the nominations for the Artist of the Year honour and the fact no women were put up for the award.

Fans were outraged to discover the category - won by Adele in 2022 - featured only male acts, with Harry, rapper Central Cee, DJ Fred Again..., and pop singers George Ezra and Stormzy.

Just 17.6% of artists originally shortlisted last year for Artist of the Year 2023 were women, and included Mabel, Florence and the Machine, Charli XCX, Becky Hill and Rina Sawayama - but none of the talented female stars made the final cut when the final nominations were announced on January 12.

This year, Mo Gilligan will host the awards for the second time in front of a live arena audience, as well as fans watching on ITV, ITVX and across the world on the BRITs official YouTube channel.

Mo went on to share his excitement at the fact the 2023 show will see "tables back in the arena" thanks to past Covid-19 restrictions being lifted.

He explained: "We don't have to be restrained, and there will be a lot more people in the room, I can move around more, I can chat more, and the lovely people at home can have a bit more chaos!

"I think this year will be hectic!"
