Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston has confirmed a Malcolm in the Middle reboot is in the works. The actor, who played Hal in the hugely popular sitcom, was on the chat show Watch What Happens Live when he teased fans that the series could come back after 17 off the air.
Speaking to host Andy Cohen on the chance of a Malcolm in the Middle returning, Cranston said: "Yes, I would say that on a scale of 1-10, I'd say an 8 that we'll do a reunion, movie or show or something... and yes, we have been working on concepts of story, plots and things like that."
In October last year, Frankie Muniz, who played Malcolm, also discussed the potential of a series reboot. Speaking to Fox News Digital, he said: "I would love to know what the family's up to. I know Bryan Cranston is really into the idea."
Muniz continued: "He's kind of heading writing the script and getting everything rolling. So, there might be something. I would be down 100 per cent. But I don't know — we'll see what happens."
Malcolm in the Middle aired from 2000 to 2006 with 151 episodes. It remains fondly remembered by many fans and is a major title in mid-noughties culture.
At its peak, the sitcom was averaging more than 15 million viewers per episode. In a recent interview with GQ, Cranston also said: "Everybody would love to come back and explore what those characters are doing later."
In response to the news Malcom in the Middle could return, Drew Powell, who played Cadet Drew in the series, tweeted: "Cadet Drew approves….and he has been BUSY the last 20 years!"
