Arsenal dealt huge injury blow vs Man United as Bukayo Saka limps off

Bukayo Saka was forced off through an injury sustained in the second half of Arsenal's clash with Manchester United. The 20-year-old appeared to ask for a substitution which saw him replaced by Rob Holding, before gingerly walking off the pitch with a club physio.

The England international appeared to point to his upper leg before coming off. The severity of the injury has not yet been determined.

An enthralling game saw both sides make plenty of mistakes at the back but a first Arsenal goal for Nuno Tavares, a Saka penalty and a Granit Xhaka screamer proved more than enough for the hosts, who had looked shaky after Cristiano Ronaldo’s 100th Premier League goal had the visitors back in the game. Bruno Fernandes missed a penalty and Diogo Dalot twice hit the woodwork as United failed to make their period of superiority pay on an afternoon where Ralf Rangnick dropped United captain Harry Maguire.

Speaking before the game, Martin Keown and Rio Ferdinand praised Saka for his recent form. Speaking to BT Sport, Keown said: "He is a player that keeps on producing. Whenever he gets on the ball, the amount of things he creates, everything happens through him and he is an outstanding player.

"He can embarrass opponents when he plays against them, he has everything you need as a young player. Still talks to a lot of the former players, he loves the club and when you bring kids through the system, they have got that extra link to the club and maybe there is that extra 10% and that is certainly happening here at the moment."

Ferdinand added: "I think a significant moment for him this week was the penalty. Especially after the Euros and the aftermath after that, for him to pick that ball up and show that mental strength, the desire and the will to do that, for someone so young it is fantastic to see and what an example to those young players. Yes, there is downturns in football, but never shy away, show that heart and that you can come back from anything."
