Brazen thief caught on CCTV stealing Samsung mobile from Possilpark shop

A brazen thief has been caught on camera stealing from a small business in Possilpark.

Mr Ali, who owns Mobile Planet, on Saracen Street was shocked to discover that a brand new Samsung Galaxy Note worth £650 was stolen by a customer while he was assisting them.

The woman entered the shop around 2pm on Friday and engaged the shopkeeper in conversation about possibly buying a phone for a "wee girl". She is seen on camera instructing Mr Ali to look on a shelf behind the till which requires him to turn his back on her.

While he is looking for the item the woman has asked for, she reaches over into a display cabinet and snatches the phone before quickly stuffing it into her bag.

She casually continues to speak to Mr Ali about the possible purchase before saying she "needs to go to the post office" and making off out of the shop with the stolen goods.

Mr Ali reported the theft to the police but officers are yet to attend the shop to review the CCTV footage.

He said: "This woman came to my shop and stole a Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Brand New worth £650. We have contacted the police and it is not an emergency in their eyes.

"As usual hard-working people are left out of pocket."

The woman was picked up on CCTV outside the shop wearing a grey/silver padded jacket with a fur hood, patterned leggings, and black trainers. She had dark blonde hair and was carrying a black handbag.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "Around 4.30 pm on Friday, 3 February 2023, police were called to a report of the theft of a mobile phone from a shop on Saracen Street, Possilpark, Glasgow.

"Enquiries are continuing."
