Brave boy, 6, born with one leg half the size of the other beats the odds with 'robot limb'

A brave little boy who was born with one leg only half the size of the other and had his foot amputated when he was 18 months old now walks with a 'robot limb' and has completed an incredible challenge to help others.

When little Leo White's mum, Claire was pregnant with him, at a 20-week scan she was told Leo’s left leg was 50 per cent shorter than his right. She was referred to the foetal medicine team at Saint Mary’s Hospital and Leo, from Burnage, was born via C-section. Thankfully there were no other complications and he was a healthy baby.

Claire, 34, and husband Jamie, 36, say they worried how it would affect his life, but decided against any lengthening procedures which would mean he would spend much of his childhood in hospital. When he was about one-year-old, the family met specialists at the Specialist Ability Centre and orthopaedic surgeons at Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, who advised it would be best if Leo had his foot amputated.
