Manchester United youngster Brandon Williams has reportedly left club officials seething after he posted a dig at Manchester City for taking 'sloppy seconds' - referencing the Blues matching the treble won by United in 1999.
Rodri's winner against Inter Milan in Istanbul saw City take the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League treble after a hard-fought season which looked like Arsenal could win the top-flight for the first time in 19 years. But, as they always do, Pep Guardiola's side ran strong in the league with 12 straight wins to turn the tide and set themselves on their way to equal what United did in 1999.
It's the first treble since United's, and having been in the third tier at the time of United's pomp, the trophy will have been sweeter for City having overcome United at Wembley in the FA Cup just nine days ago. But to add further salt to the wounds, the club have been left 'unimpressed' with Williams after his outburst on social media.
Williams posted on Instagram: "Nobody wants a sloppy seconds", followed by three devil emojis as per their nickname. He further fired a dig at United legend Rio Ferdinand for working at the final on BT Sport's coverage, posting: "@rioferdy5 Bet you don't congratulate if you was [sic] player keep the same morals. too face is boring. You don't praise simple as. Fakessssssssss for [money emoji]."
United have since responded to Williams' words according to ESPN, with the club making a huge effort to distance themselves from the comments and being disappointed as a result. The report further goes on to state that the comments weren't welcome amongst senior officials at Old Trafford.
With the Red Devils losing in the FA Cup Final to gee their noisy neighbours up for the hat-trick of accolades, the words will only leave a further acrid taste in the mouths of Erik ten Hag and his side.
