Patrick Mahomes got hit with a pretty great prank during his press conference leading up to the Super Bowl LVII weekend.
I Am Athlete’s Brandon Marshall asked the Chiefs quarterback, “Rihanna came out and said you were the greatest quarterback ever. Hearing that, how does that make you feel?”
The question seemed to catch Mahomes slightly off guard, but a smile quickly emerged. He responded, “That makes me feel great. She’s going to crush it at halftime. I have family members that I think are more excited about the halftime show than they are about the game. Whatever Rihanna says is like the gospel so I’m glad that she went with me for that honor.”
Marshall then said, “She didn’t,” before adding, “I was just messing with you.” Mahomes was visibly disappointed by the prank as laughter erupted from the other media members.

“Man, you got me up here smiling and smirking,” Mahomes said. Marshall did eventually pose a “serious” question for the quarterback, asking him, “What are you chasing?”

The 27-year-old gave a thoughtful answer, saying it’s not individual accolades, but that he doesn’t want to have any regrets when he leaves the field.
“I understand how lucky I am to be in this organization,” Mahomes said. “I understand how lucky I am to play with guys that are going to be Hall of Famers. When I look back at the end of my career, I don’t want to look back and be like, ‘Man, I didn’t give everything that I have to win Super Bowls’ because of the great people I have around me. When I get done with my career, I just want to make sure I know that I gave everything that I had on that football field.”
