Bradley Walsh halts BBC The One Show to address son Barney's absence

TV viewers have got used to seeing father and son duo, Bradley and Barney Walsh, on their screens. The pair have been fronting ITV's Breaking Dad, which is airing its current series at the moment.

However, Bradley appeared on BBC's The One Show alone, despite being invited on to the programme to discuss the pair's 'road trip' show. Bradley soon set the record straight, halting the primetime show to explain Barney's absence.

The Chase star was being interviewed on The One Show last night (January 25), according to Nottinghamshire Live sister publication, Birmingham Live. Appearing on the famous sofa alone, he said: "I'm sorry he's not here and he sends his apologies."

Explaining his absence, he continued: "He's actually filming something, drama-wise, and he's on location. Trying to get him to come on the road with me is a task now." He added: "It used to be the other way around."

Bradley and Barney currently star on Breaking Dad on ITV, which viewers can catch up with on ITVX. The show is described as featuring "a reluctant father, enthusiastic son and an epic trip". Five series are currently available to stream. The current series is up to episode four.

During the interview, Bradley, who is also known for his roles in ITV's The Larkins and BBC cult show Doctor Who, revealed that working on Breaking Dad had brought him and his son "closer". He said: "Barney himself has received letters and emails saying that 'through your show, I've reconnected with my mum or dad and now we're going to go on a holiday together'.

"I always say that if we've only ever made one person reconnect with their family then we've cracked it. What a thing to be able to do."

Opening up on ITV show This Morning, Bradley has previously admitted his bond. He said: "He has always been my son, and you always take care of them. But then all of a sudden he becomes your equal and a work colleague, and a mate, and someone you respect."

He added: "Now I look up to him. Barney, bless him, was directing me on some of the things. 'Dad, don't worry about this, you need to be thinking about this', and actually producing me."
