Nearly five months after Bradford Regional Medical Center ended emergency and inpatient care, people in this northwestern Pennsylvania city of about 7,500 still have no local emergency room. The nearest full-service hospital is now Olean General Hospital in New York, about 20 miles away, and local ambulance crews say each emergency call now takes roughly twice as long as it did before.
A new report from WHYY, published Oct. 5, 2026, describes a community left without the hospital that served it for nearly 140 years. The hospital stopped emergency and inpatient services on May 17, 2026, and now operates only as an outpatient center.
