The NFL’s leader in rushing touchdowns in 2022 could be coming back to Detroit for 2023. Lions RB Jamaal Williams is a pending free agent, but team GM Brad Holmes indicated that Detroit is efforting to bring him back into the den for at least another season.
During his NFL Scouting Combine interview, Holmes noted that the two sides are working already to get a deal done before free agency begins in a couple of weeks.
“You know, we’re having discussions now, currently,” Holmes said on Wednesday. “We had discussions with all our upcoming UFAs that were on expiring deals and there’s a mutual interest to hopefully get him back.”
Williams is coming off a two-year, $6 million contract he signed in Detroit after four seasons with the Green Bay Packers. The fan-favorite runner led the NFL in touchdowns with 17 and topped 1,000 yards rushing in 2022–the first Lions RB to do that in nearly a decade. Williams has indicated he wants to be back in Detroit.
