The next phase of the huge Brabazon development north of Bristol is scheduled to start in late summer, which will see the historic Filton Airfield transformed. The site started as an aircraft factory in 1910 and was the birthplace of the supersonic Concorde where the first and last flights took place.
YTL Developments, which is behind the new neighbourhood north of Bristol city centre, confirmed planning permission had been granted for the next phase of new homes. Construction is due to start in late summer with completion scheduled for late 2024.
In a statement, YTL said: “The designs for the second phase retain many of the distinctive features that have made The Hangar District, the fist phase at Brabazon, such a success. Each house features picture windows that flood the homes with natural light, as well as clever layouts and a range of sustainable features that are all included as standard.”

The second phase of new homes excludes gas-based heating, with heating provided through air source heat pumps. The new homes will also include 'intricate brickwork and tree-lined streets', according to the developer.
The plans have been designed by local architects Feilden Clegg Bradley Stokes. YTL said: “The new homes are designed on a network of living streets with residents able to enjoy expanded access to outdoor spaces that bring people together, including shared gardens, public squares and play areas for children."
Planning and development director at YTL Sebastian Loyn added: “This is the next chapter in creating a thriving new neighbourhood for Bristol. We continue to innovate, creating new styles of living spaces, streets and public realm.

“These new homes at Brabazon are unique within Bristol. We believe that places are as much about people as they are about buildings, which is why the design for the latest phase focuses on fostering a new community at Brabazon.”

He added that the new homes are 'set to be among the most desirable addresses in the city'. It will include the YTL arena, Brabazon Park, Hangar 16U and a new railway station and metro bus service for the new district.
Anyone travelling along the A38 Gloucester Road North can see work taking place at the site. Over £100 million is being invested to improve local infrastructure.
