Boyfriend from hell told woman he would 'hang her dog in the garden'

An obsessive boyfriend threatened to hang a woman's dog in her garden. It came after Carey Wilson suspected the woman was secretly seeing other men behind his back.

The cocaine user bombarded the woman was phone calls and kept turning up at her home to check if she was cheating on him. He even damaged a car he thought could belong to a man she was seeing.

The woman had been left "petrified" about what he could do, reports HullLive. His bad-tempered antics were labelled "utterly disgraceful" when he appeared before Hull Crown Court.

Wilson, 32, of Cleeton Lane, Skipsea, admitted witness intimidation, harassment and three offences of causing criminal damage. Stephen Welch, prosecuting, said that Wilson and the woman were acquaintances from the Hornsea area but they later formed a relationship three months before the offences started.

Things appeared to be going well at first. But Wilson later became obsessed with the idea that the woman was sleeping with other men.

The relationship broke down completely, but later restarted. However, a few days after this reconciliation, Wilson started repeatedly telephoning the woman or going to her home to check whether she was with other men.

Wilson became annoyed that a male friend of the woman had parked in a car park near her home. He hurled ornaments through the windscreen of the man's car and slashed four tyres, causing total damage estimated at £600. Wilson tried to get inside the woman's home and damaged a door and windows in trying to do so.

Mr Welch sad: "The defendant repeatedly sent her abusive and threatening messages, including threats that he would repeatedly assault her father in front of her brother and mother." He warned her: "I'll make your life hell" and he threatened to hang her dog in her garden."

Wilson also threatened to send some lads round to her home to cause trouble. On January 31, Wilson turned up at her home and caused a nuisance. He clambered on a neighbour's wooden plant box, damaging it.

Wilson later told police that he tried to force his way into the woman's home, but he denied causing damage. He believed that the car belonged to someone that she was seeing. He blamed her for what happened.

The woman later said in a statement: "It has made me quite scared of Carey and what he is capable of." She added: "I am concerned what he could do once he is released. I want Wilson out of my life."

Wilson had convictions including affray in December 2015 and causing fear of violence in 2009. Cathy Kioko-Gilligan, mitigating, said that Wilson was behaving irrationally at the time and his behaviour was "utterly disgraceful".

He acknowledged that fact and he was "truly sorry" for what he had done. The messages were "vile".

He had expressed genuine remorse and apologised to the woman. "It's clear there is a different side to this defendant," said Miss Kioko-Gilligan.

Wilson was highly thought of by his family. He had previously worked and he hoped to regain employment quite quickly after his release from prison.

"This defendant clearly needs assistance moving forward," said Miss Kioko-Gilligan. "He is capable of rehabilitation. The prisons are full." His problems were caused by "jealousy and cocaine".

Judge Kate Rayfield said: "There is only one sentence that I can impose and that's immediate custody." Witnesses had to know that if they were brave enough to come forward, they would be protected by the justice system.

"She is petrified of what you will do when you are eventually released," said Judge Rayfield. Witnesses sometimes ended up regretting reporting something because of the consequences that followed.

Wilson was jailed for one year and was given a five-year restraining order.
