One of the boys rescued from a Thai cave aged 13 when a football team became trapped underground has died in the UK, aged 17. Duangpetch Promthep was captain of the football team that was trapped for two weeks along with their coach.
He moved to the UK after the rescue and last year enrolled in a football academy, aged 17. He has died after suffering a head injury, reports the BBC.
His mother has reported the news to the Wat Doi Wao temple in his hometown in Chiang Rai. Some of his teammates have shared the news on social media.
The temple posted condolences to Promthep saying: "May Dom's soul rest in peace."
Zico Foundation, which helped Promthep win a scholarship to study in England, also expressed condolences.
Promthep was part of the Moo Pa in Thai football team which was trapped in the Tham Luang cave in 2018 and was later trapped by rising flood waters. His teammates were aged between 11 and 16.
It took nearly 100 Thai and foreign rescue experts to save them.
