Boy fights for life after being hit by lorry as police appeal for dashcam footage

A teenage boy is fighting for his life after being hit by a lorry in Cumbria.

The 17-year-old pedestrian was hit at a roundabout the A66 near Penrith and is in a critical condition in hospital.

Emergency services rushed to the scene at the Kemplay Bank roundabout following reports a young person had been struck by a HGV on Wednesday afternoon.

Cumbria Police sealed off the major route following the incident.

The force today (Thursday) said the teenager was still in a critical condition and officers are now searching for anyone who may have caught dashcam footage of the incident.

A spokesperson said: "Officers investigating a serious collision on the A66 at Penrith are appealing for witnesses.

"At 12:41pm yesterday (14 June), officers received a report of a collision on the A66 eastbound carriageway between junction 40 of the M6 and Kemplay Bank roundabout.

"The collision involved a HGV and a pedestrian.

"The pedestrian, a 17-year-old boy from Penrith, was taken to hospital by air ambulance in a critical condition.

"Officers are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision or have dash cam footage which may assist the investigation to contact them."

Updates are expected to follow.
