Boy, 7, dies after being hit by car in early morning crash

The child died at the scene - (PA)

A seven-year-old boy has been killed in a crash on a main road in Staffordshire.

Police officers were called to the scene at about 5am on Saturday, where there had been a collision between a car and a child on the A38 at the junction with the A5206, near Lichfield.

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police said: “Sadly, the child, a boy aged 7, died at the scene.

“His family have been informed and are being supported by specially-trained officers.”

The A38 was closed in both directions between the A5148 and A5 junctions for more than 10 hours while officers investigated.

Police are appealing for witnesses and ask that anyone with information or dashcam footage to call them on 101, or email ciu@staffordshire.police.uk quoting incident number 109 of March 7.
