Boy, 14, dies after falling from theme park ride as horrified witnesses watch on

A boy has died after falling from a drop ride at a theme park.

Horrifying footage captured the moment the bay fell from the plunging ride in Orlando, Florida as witnesses screamed and emergency services scrambled.

It's understood a 14-year-old boy was taken to hospital where he tragically died.

Police received reports of an emergency at ICON Park in Orlando, Florida just after 11pm local time on Thursday.

It's the world's tallest free-standing drop tower, according to the ICON Park website.

ICON Park is also home to the Orlando Slingshot - the tallest slingshot ride in the world.

Riders are rotated around a tower as they rise up into the air.

Last year Dawn Jankovic, 47, was found unresponsive next to her 17-year-old son on The Voyage ride at Holiday World & Splashin' Safari theme park in Santa Claus, Indiana, on June 4.

The woman, from Ohio, was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital where she later died.

After an autopsy, Dubois County Coroner Katie Schuck said the three causes of death were a combination of internal bleeding, the tearing of an artery and the force of the rollercoaster.

"It was just a reaction her body had from riding the ride. It had nothing to do with a malfunction or anything, as far as safety and that type of thing."

The coroner said: "It had nothing to do with the ride itself, but it basically was just the force.
