A brilliant goal from the in-form Darwin Nunez saw Liverpool edge past Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium and into the Carabao Cup quarter-finals on Wednesday night.
Both managers made a raft of changes from their usual Premier League set-ups, which duly led to a reasonably disjointed game in the opening stages. Cody Gakpo, however, was able to open the scoring just after the half hour mark after tapping in following Harvey Elliott's saved shot.
The Cherries, however, roared back. After the break, the played with much more intensity and were unlucky not to have levelled the scoring before Justin Kluivert resorted parity with just over an hour gone.
Still, it would be Nunez who would have the last laugh. Improving all the time this season and finding his feet with seemingly every passing game, the striker unleashed a powerful strike with around eleven minutes to go to ensure Liverpool would reach the final eight once more.
