Bournemouth send Zlatan Ibrahimovic message after Liverpool transfer

Bournemouth have already shown their appreciation for Nat Phillips following his loan move from Liverpool.

The 24-year-old defender completed a temporary move to the Cherries, with the Reds receiving a £1.5m loan fee and an additional £250,000 if the club achieves promotion from the Championship.

Phillips had been keen to leave Liverpool in search of regular football after finding himself fifth in the pecking order and limited to three appearances this term.

And Bournemouth celebrated his arrival by having Philllips watch his memorable Cruyff turn on Zlatan Ibrahimovic when playing AC Milan in the Champions League - much to the delight of both Liverpool and Cherries fans.

Phillips earned somewhat cult hero status last season after coming to Jurgen Klopp’s aid in Liverpool’s time of need.

The centre-back made 20 appearances in all competitions and played a crucial role in achieving qualification for the Champions League, after rising through the ranks due to the long-term injuries of Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip and Joe Gomez.

The trio’s recovery to full fitness - and the subsequent arrival of Ibrahima Konate - means that his sole 90 minutes in the current campaign came in a 2-1 win against Milan at the San Siro in December.

Liverpool are understood to have turned down two bids in the region of £7m for Phillips earlier this month, with him valued between £12-15m by the club.

The defender signed a four-year deal last summer, meaning he could still command a considerable fee, should he earn regular game time with Bournemouth and impress during his time with Scott Parker’s side.
