A two-day gathering in Boulder, Colorado, brought scientists and engineers together to examine what a human mission to Titan would actually require. The June meeting was not presented as a sign that astronauts will reach Saturn’s largest moon anytime soon. Instead, the Humans to Titan Summit focused on the technologies, engineering challenges and long-term commitment that would be needed to make such a mission possible.
Titan’s unusual atmosphere, local chemistry and harsh environment make it a difficult destination, but researchers say the biggest obstacles are no longer questions of whether physics allows the journey, as per Science Daily.
