Boubacar Kamara among five Aston Villa players Unai Emery could be without for West Ham clash

West Ham United will be looking to issue a response against Aston Villa on Sunday after their crushing defeat against Brighton last weekend.

The 4-0 loss at the Amex Stadium increased the pressure on manager David Moyes, with his Hammers side 16th in the Premier League table and just one point ahead of the bottom three.

After a 2-0 win in Cyprus against AEK Larnaca in the Europa Conference League on Thursday night, the Hammers will be looking to make it two victories in less than 72 hours when they take on Villa at the London Stadium.

But, Moyes has a number of injury concerns ahead of the fixture, with the likes of Vladimir Coufal (heel), Michail Antonio (calf), Flynn Downes (ankle), and Lucas Paqueta (calf) potential absentees.

Villa boss Unai Emery could be without up to five players for the trip to the capital, reports Birmingham Live. However, Diego Carlos could be in line to return to action after spending six months on the sidelines due to a ruptured Achilles tendon. After a long-term absence, the Brazilian is likely to be named on Villa’s bench if he is included in the matchday squad.

Boubacar Kamara picked up an ankle injury during last weekend’s win over Crystal Palace and will miss the West Ham fixture. “Kamara is not ready for Sunday but he is going well,” said Emery during his pre-match press conference. “I was speaking to him (Friday) morning and it’s going well, but not enough for Sunday.”

Philippe Coutinho has missed the last two games due to a hamstring injury and may not return until after the international break. Goalkeeper Jed Steer ruptured his Achilles on loan at Luton Town over a year ago and is yet to make a comeback.

Leander Dendoncker missed the win against Palace due to personal reasons. Ahead of facing West Ham, Emery said on the Belgian international: “Leander had a domestic accident and is progressing with us this week but has not been involved in the normal training sessions. Tomorrow we will wait but he will be a doubt.”
