Botman starts, Targett ruled out: Brighton vs Newcastle United team news

Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe handed Sven Botman his first start in the Premier League away to Brighton & Hove Albion.

There was also a start for Nick Pope between the posts at the Amex Stadium while Kieran Trippier was handed the armband with Jamaal Lascelles still on the bench.

Botman was part of a defence that included Fabian Schar and Dan Burn at left-back with Matt Targett missing with a dead leg.

Joe Willock, Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton held the midfield together while Allan Saint-Maximin, Callum Wilson and Miguel Almiron led the line. Howe included Elliot Anderson on the bench again while Sean Longstaff must also wait for a start.

Speaking on Targett's absence, Howe said. "He got a dead leg on his hamstring last week. We felt it was just a dead leg at the time, then on the scan, it showed very minor damage to his hamstring. So, he misses today, but hopefully, not too long."
