Boston’s top trade candidate? Per HoopsHype, Danilo Gallinari

With so many players for the Boston Celtics playing so well, there’s a very good case to be made against trading any player ahead of the 2023 NBA trade deadline. But in a full-league exercise put together by HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto, if the Celtics did trade anyone, it would likely be injured veteran forward Danilo Gallinari.

“Most executives around the league don’t see the Celtics making a trade with the continuity of their young core,” agrees Scotto. “Should Boston want to tinker with its roster and improve its rotation depth, Danilo Gallinari’s $6.48 million salary can be used as a trade filler.”

The Celtics certainly do not need to make a trade, barring unforeseen events, but it’s not out of the question the team could elect to deal Gallo and perhaps another deep rotation player or two for a frontcourt upgrade or perhaps some wing depth if the right deal comes along.

But given how much Gallinari wants to be on this roster and the situation Boston is in, it seems unlikely the Italian forward is going anywhere anytime soon.
