Star Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum is diversifying his investments, according to a new article by the Boston Globe’s Michael Silverman. Per Silverman, Tatum is now part-owner of a Major League Pickleball team, the Los Angeles Mad Drops, in the popular tennis-like sport that features a soft shot called a “dink.”
The St. Louis native joined chess master Magnus Carlsen, fellow NBAer Zach LaVine and others as investors in the Mad Drops as the sport’s popularity has begun to take off in recent months. The Professional Pickleball Association and the Association of Pickleball Professionals are the two pro leagues in the sport. Both feature singles and doubles tournament formats.
Among the fastest-growing sports worldwide, the interest and investment from high-profile investors and owners such as Tatum, Carlsen, and even Los Angeles Lakers star (and Celtics nemesis) LeBron James has helped fuel that popularity.

No word at present on whether the Duke alum has any plans to try his hand at the sport after he leaves the NBA.
