Boston-area kindergartens are just under the level of measles protection health officials aim for. State data reported by WBUR on Oct. 6 show that 94.2% of kindergartners in Suffolk County, which includes Boston, had received measles vaccines in the 2025-2026 school year. That is below the 95% threshold considered necessary to stop the virus from spreading.
For Boston parents, the number matters most at the classroom level. A countywide rate near 95% can hide individual schools where far fewer children are protected. It also matters for people who cannot get the shot, including babies younger than 12 months.
