The early-season matchup between the Boston Celtics and Milwaukee Bucks was sure to be must-watch viewing, and when the Celtics jumped out to a 21-point lead in the game’s first half, the fans assembled at TD Garden were loving every second of a Boston club that seemed incapable of missing.
But the Celtics slowed their roll in the game’s second half, and the Bucks walked down Boston’s lead in the contest’s final frame, the Celtics escaping with a 119-116 home win. Big games from Jaylen Brown (26 points and a team-high 8 assists), Jayson Tatum (23 points, 11 rebounds), and Kristaps Porzingis (21 points, 6 rebounds) secured the victory, and all three bench players (Al Horford – 11 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists; Sam Hauser and Payton Pritchard with 10 points each) scored in double digits.
With the win, the Celtics gave themselves a 1.5 game cushion to hold the NBA’s Eastern Conference standings’ top spot over the Philadephia 76ers with the Bucks falling to third place with the loss after a five-game winning streak.
