Boris Johnson could not even resign as an MP with dignity.
Like a criminal who refuses to come to court for his sentencing, the former PM cowardly quit Parliament rather than hear the verdict of the Privileges committee in person.
He skulked off, not with contrition or remorse but with a Donald Trump-style rant about how he was the victim of an injustice.
But he was not stitched up by a kangaroo court of Remainers seeking revenge on Brexit. His conduct was assessed by a cross-party committee of MPs including several Brexiteers.
It is all the more disgraceful that Johnson only departed after showering his cronies, fundraisers and henchmen with gongs
and baubles.
These included an honour for one of the main players in the partygate scandal.
Mr Johnson brought shame on his office when in government and has brought shame on Parliament in the manner of his departure.
Someone who has never acted honourably in their life should never have been allowed to dispense a resignation honours list.
Cold hearts
Many went without heat because they could not afford high winter energy bills.
At the same time the oil giants raked in record profits thanks to the war in Ukraine.
Only belatedly did the Government introduce a windfall tax on these greedy corporates.

Now it says it will scrap the levy as soon as wholesale prices return to normal.
By doing so they are siding with profiteers and polluters over ordinary households.
If retained, the tax could be used not only to help those in fuel poverty but also to pay for home insulation that would benefit millions.
Three cheers
Good luck to Manchester City in their treble-chasing Champions League final tonight.
And if you don’t like football – or you’re a Manchester United fan – at least there’s a weekend of glorious sunshine ahead.
