Boris Johnson 'says it will take an army of tanks to get him out of Downing Street', reports say

Boris Johnson has reportedly said it will take an army of tanks to get him out of Downing Street.

The Prime Minister is facing mounting pressure to resign as 15 MPs are confirmed to have publicly handed in letters calling for a vote of no confidence.

Many more are believed to have done so privately and there have been calls from members of his own party as well as the Opposition for him to go.

There is severe unrest over the Prime Minister's involvement with and handling of parties in Downing Street during lockdown - as well as his slur over Sir Keir Starmer, WalesOnline reports.

The PM hit out at Sir Keir for "failing to prosecute Jimmy Savile" when he was the Director of Public Prosecutions during PMQs last week.

According to The Times, one senior adviser said: "He’s making very clear that they’ll have to send a Panzer division to get him out of there."

If 54 MPs call for a vote of no confidence then the Conservative Party would have to hold one, putting the Prime Minister's job at risk.

The number of letters submitted is believed to be between 35 and 45 although some say it is already more than 50.

And The Times claims three sources say Carrie Johnson has privately said her husband should quit.

A new book about the life of Carrie Johnson will be published this week.

Fiver senior aides in Downing Street have resigned in the last few days and are now being replaced.
