Who could replace Boris Johnson in the role of prime minister?
Penny Mordaunt has joined the race to become the next Tory leader, which a former Conservative minister has called it the “most unpredicatable leadership election” ever.
The international trade secretary joined eight other Conservative MPs in throwing her hat into the ring on Sunday.
Her contenders include Sajid Javid, Jeremy Hunt, Nadhim Zahawi and Rishi Sunak.
“This is probably the most unpredictable leadership election in history,” veteran Tory MP David Davis said.
He added: “It’s also one of the most important because if we don’t get this right we are losing the next election and we’re going to be out of power for a long time.”
Meanwhile, the shadow home secretary called the Tory leadership race a “chaotic catwalk of contestants” as a growing number of MPs battle it out to replace Boris Johnson.
Brexit, tax cuts and transgender rights are among the issues the hopefuls have been setting out their positions on.
