More than four million Ukrainians have been forced to flee Russia ’s invasion.
In response to this humanitarian tragedy, hundreds of thousands of people here have volunteered to open their homes to refugees.
But this outpouring of kindness was not matched by the Home Office.
Boris Johnson claims his Government has done more to settle vulnerable people than any other country.
This could not be further from the truth. Fewer than 3,000 refugees have been accepted by the UK compared to 1.2million in Poland.
And Johnson and Co have gone out of their way to make things as difficult as possible.
Visa forms are in English only and are unnecessarily bureaucratic. Even if you can navigate the paperwork, a visa can take weeks because of Home Office inefficiency.
There has been no consideration for the plight of people forced to flee at short notice in traumatic and terrifying conditions.
The generosity of the British people cannot be faulted. The cold-hearted and incompetent attitude of the Government cannot be forgiven.
Testing times
Boris Johnson may have concluded that Covid is over but the statistics tell a different story.
In the last week there were more than half a million new infections and over 1,000 deaths. Thousands are still being admitted to hospital.
When the virus is so prevalent, it makes no sense for the Government to end free testing.
If people cannot tell if they have the virus they will be less likely to isolate and will therefore risk spreading the disease still further.
If the PM wants to save lives and control Covid he should rethink the end of free testing.
Roar ambition
Good luck to England in the World Cup... and to Wales or Scotland if they qualify.
After coming so close in the Euros, we all want the Three Lions to go one better in Qatar.
And by avoiding Germany in the group stage they are already got off to a good start.
