The highly anticipated live action adaptation of the popular video game series Borderlands has finally given fans a glimpse of the main cast of characters. The movie, which has been in development since 2015, features an ensemble cast led by Cate Blanchett as Lilith, alongside Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Jamie Lee Curtis.
Directed by Eli Roth and co-written by Roth and Joe Crombie, the Borderlands movie is based on the hit video game franchise developed by Gearbox Software. The star-studded cast includes Cate Blanchett as Lilith, Kevin Hart as Roland, Jack Black as Claptrap, Jamie Lee Curtis as Dr. Patricia Tannis, Ariana Greenblatt as Tiny Tina, and Florian Munteanu as Krieg. Other notable cast members include Édgar Ramírez, Bobby Lee, Olivier Richters, Janina Gavankar, Gina Gershon, and Cheyenne Jackson.
The movie's official synopsis reveals that Lilith, an infamous outlaw, returns to her home planet of Pandora to find the missing daughter of the universe's most powerful figure, Atlas. She teams up with a diverse group of characters including Roland, Tiny Tina, Krieg, Tannis, and Claptrap to battle alien monsters and dangerous bandits in a quest to protect the missing girl and potentially save the universe.
Despite facing challenges during production, including extensive reshoots directed by Tim Miller, the Borderlands movie is set to hit theaters on August 9, 2024. The reshoots involved new pages written by Joe Crombie, who took over from Craig Mazin, the original scriptwriter known for Chernobyl and The Last of Us.
With the release of new images showcasing the main cast and the intriguing storyline, fans can look forward to experiencing the action-packed world of Borderlands on the big screen later this year.
