The southern border has reached a grim milestone as sources report that there have been over one million migrant encounters since the beginning of the fiscal year on October 1st. This figure, which does not even include the number of individuals who managed to evade apprehension, marks the earliest point in a fiscal year that Border Patrol has ever recorded such a high number of encounters.
Within this surge of migrants, officials have identified dozens of dangerous gang members. Although illegal border crossings have slowed down in Eagle Pass, Texas, authorities have noted that this is not indicative of a halt in activity but rather a shift to other areas. In fact, in the past 24 hours alone, over 6,800 migrants were apprehended.
Currently, there seem to be no caps on illegal immigration, meaning that the number of migrants crossing the border illegally is only limited by the capacity to take them into custody. Data from reliable sources reveals that there have been over 785,000 encounters in just the first three months of fiscal year 2024, which is more than the population of Seattle. When including the numbers from January and the beginning of February, the total now surpasses the one million mark. These numbers are nothing short of staggering and highlight a concerning continuation of policies by the Biden administration.
The Border Patrol chief has reported that since October 1st, agents have apprehended over 160 individuals with known ties to criminal gangs. It is evident that the cartels have control over the migration across the border. To address this critical issue, Texas Governor Greg Abbott, along with governors from other states, has advocated for a more secure border. In fact, Governor Abbott plans to host around 20 lawmakers in Eagle Pass to make a significant announcement related to border security.
Furthermore, 15 state attorneys general, led by General Ken Paxton, have written a letter to U.S. Senate leadership urging Congress to allow states to enforce existing federal immigration laws. This collective call highlights the collective fight for a safer and more secure border and country.
The situation at the southern border is dire, with the number of migrant encounters surpassing one million and dangerous gang members among them. As authorities continue to grapple with this overwhelming surge, the importance of effective border security measures and cooperation between states and federal agencies becomes increasingly evident.
