A warehouse worker has been slammed for his drunk behaviour after he challenged his girlfriend to a fight in Renfrewshire.
Jamie Cassidy went to a funeral on November 18 last year and spent the day drinking.
Following the funeral, the 20-year-old went to a property in Johnstone’s Gowanlea Place where he continued to drink booze until 6.30am.
When Cassidy was asked to leave after being abusive towards his partner Lorn Marcus, and her family, he repeatedly kicked and banged the front door.
And when cops arrested the brute, he was abusive towards them, calling one officer an “old cow”.
Procurator fiscal depute Ewan Nicholson told Paisley Sheriff Court Cassidy had been in a relationship with Lorn Marcus for a year when the incident unfolded.
The court also heard how Cassidy had been at a funeral the day prior with his ex-partner, family and friends.
Mr Nicholson explained: “Around 11.30pm, Cassidy and Ms Marcus returned to the Gowanlea Place property in Brookfield where they consumed alcohol.
“The accused became increasingly intoxicated and began arguing with the complainer’s family. At 6.30am, the accused left the property and was outside on the phone to his dad.
“Ms Ritchie had to bring Cassidy inside due to the level of his voice. When back inside, Cassidy began an argument with Ms Marcus and was aggressive towards her and as a result, was asked to leave.
“When outside, Cassidy was walking around the street backwards and forwards towards the front door and banging on it.
“The complainer watched CCTV from the Ring doorbell and the accused could be seen shouting, swearing and kicking the door, he was shouting, ‘Mon out, we will go for a box’ and ‘mon out, we will go for a f*****g box.’
“Police were contacted, and when they attended, traced the accused at the front door where he was arrested. Prior to being searched by officers, he was asked if he had any sharp objects and he replied, ‘look and you’ll find out.’
“He was reminded failure to disclose any items could lead to a further charge and he replied to the police officer, ‘f**k off you old cow’. He was handcuffed and taken to Greenock police station where he was later released on an undertaking to appear at this court.”
Defence agent Paul Lynch told the court Cassidy cares for his ill father and comes across as a “polite and courteous young man” and his behaviour on this occasion was “at odds” to what he is really like.
Mr Lynch added: “This was a combination of factors, too much alcohol, his young age and his emotions.
“He is extremely embarrassed about his conduct. He says that having been asked to leave, he claims his wallet and house keys were in another room and he wasn’t being allowed to retrieve them and this is what’s caused him to act in this way outside.”
Sentencing, Sheriff Colin Pettigrew said: “I mean this sincerely. It is regrettable that you’re here at all. Sadly, funerals happen, they are a part of life we all have to deal with. I’m not condoning you for showing emotion or for having an alcoholic drink but the line needs to be drawn.
“It was some night between 11.30pm and 6.30am and I don’t want to know how much alcohol was consumed. The officer was simply doing their job, they don’t need to be abused.
“If this type of conduct continues, the court will take this behaviour more seriously and that may affect how you care for your dad, your employment and your liberty.”
Cassidy, of Birness Drive in Glasgow, was fined a total of £690 and ordered to pay this at the rate of £75 per month.
