Boomers say watching porn and a 'snore room' are keys to happy relationship

We're all looking for the secrets to a long and happy relationship, and boomers think that they've got it all figured out.

They reckon that kissing and holding hands, having a separate 'snore room' and watching porn together are ways to keep things fresh and fun in their partnerships.

Of course, boomers are the generation that enjoyed the summer of love in 1967, with many having fun before settling down and getting married.

Now, according to a survey by Boom Radio, many believe that a combination of romance, sex and mutual respect is the key.

90 per cent of listeners said kissing their partner is the secret to happiness, and 81 per cent said holding hands - adorable.

For many, intimacy is still an important part of their life, with 11% watching porn to spice things up in the bedroom, 17 per cent using Viagra and a cheeky three per cent enjoying threesomes or swinging.

And, of those boomers who are back on the dating scene, 30 per cent said they used dating apps and 15 per cent enjoy casual sex.

However, almost half said that a "snore room", a separate bedroom, is vital to keeping not only the spark alive but their partner sane.

When asked what was important, one listener said: "Give and take, humour, and plenty of wine" was important, while another emphasised the need to "accept that you may have different views on some things and that's fine!

"Laughing with each other, smiling, being thankful and saying I love you every day is what counts."

With many baby boomers now enjoying 50 or more years of marriage, when asked what it was like being with the same person for that long, one respondent quipped: “It’s like wearing in a pair of shoes.

"At first they take a bit of getting used to as they can be uncomfortable but after a bit of perseverance they fit you and are comfortable so why would you want another pair?"

Other advice included never going to bed on an argument, sharing domestic responsibilities and having separate hobbies, but also mutual interests.

"These findings are significant because not only to they shed light on the ingredients required for a long and happy relationship, but that also old age is no barrier to having fun,” said David Lloyd, co-founder of Boom Radio.

"Our generation has really lived and is never reluctant to talk about some giddy times. It's reassuring our attitude to life seems much the same as it always was, an attitude which perhaps some younger generations can learn from."
