A Hunter man who allegedly threatened a police officer while he was being interviewed, after allegedly assaulting his father in a car, has been granted conditional bail.
Magistrate Ian Rodgers told Cessnock Local Court on Tuesday the accusations levelled at Adam Cliff, 34, were "very clearly extremely serious allegations indeed".
Mr Cliff appeared before the court via video-link from remand as his solicitor applied for his release.
The court heard the Cessnock man allegedly punched his father four times to the cheek while the older man was behind the wheel of a vehicle late on Monday morning.
The prosecution said the incident was a case of "coercive control" and Mr Cliff allegedly refused to leave the vehicle until his father transferred $100 to his bank account.
After his arrest on Monday afternoon, police interviewed Mr Cliff at Cessnock police station.
It was there he allegedly told a female constable: "I know where you live, boom".
He also allegedly told police during the interview his father was going to be in a "world of hurt", the court heard.
Mr Cliff was charged with using a carriage service in a menacing way, assault causing actual bodily harm, and intimidating a police officer.
Magistrate Rodgers granted him bail on the conditions that he report to police three times a week, that he not drink alcohol or take any drugs unless prescribed, and that he not contact his father in any way.
He will face court again on September 18.
