'Booked flat in 2012, now possession in 2032': Millionaire Sabeer Bhatia shares homebuying ordeal in India

A property purchase made in 2012 when smartphones were still a novelty and Instagram had barely turned two years old is now at the centre of an online storm, because the Indian American millionaire still doesn't have his home. Sabeer Bhatia, the Silicon Valley entrepreneur best known for building Hotmail, has gone public with a grievance that will sound painfully familiar to thousands of Indian homebuyers: a flat booked over a decade ago that simply refuses to materialise.

Sabeer Bhatia says flat possession still delayed even after 20 years

Bhatia, now 57, took to X to describe what can only be called an epic wait. He purchased a high-end apartment in India back in 2012, the same year Delhi hosted a controversial gang-rape protest wave and India's economy was still finding its post-recession footing. Fourteen years on, he says, the project remains unfinished.
