Bono paid a visit to the US Capitol Building and thanked the police there for their work on January 6, 2021 during the riots that broke out that day.
The musician arrived in Washington during the week to meet with politicians and campaign for equal access to vaccines around the world.
In a video posted by Suzanne Lynch, Bono can be seen speaking to a group of Capitol police officers and offering his thanks after they "saved America".

He said: "I haven't been back since January 6.
"You guys saved America as far as I'm concerned.
"[There was] so much awfulness on that day and I just want to say that people around the world really respect you."
Twitter seemed to be alight with people poking fun at Bono's speech to the officers, with one person joking: "Oh dear. What did they do to deserve that."
Seeming to take a dig at Bono's accent, another said: "Nice of the British pop star Bono to share his kind words with them. We are blessed to know him."
Meanwhile another commented: "Not one of them has a clue who he is, do they?"
The U2 singer recently penned a special St Patrick's Day poem dedicated to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, which was read out by Nancy Pelosi at the annual Friends of Ireland Luncheon on Capitol Hill in Washington.
"Bono has been a very Irish part of our lives," she said of the performer.
The poem reads: "Ireland’s sorrow and pain
"Is now the Ukraine
"And Saint Patrick’s name now Zelenskyy."
