A hiker has discovered what is believed to be human bones in a popular Queensland walking trail area.
A crime scene has been declared at a Toowoomba park west of Brisbane after human remains were located at the remote bushland area on Monday afternoon.
An extensive search of the area is under way along with a forensic examination after the discovery at Glen Lomond Park, police said.
"It is a walking track area. It is a fairly remote area ... the remains were located yesterday by a hiker, Acting Deputy Commissioner Mark Kelly told reporters on Tuesday.
"Today we've got police, forensics and we've requested SES do searches for us."
Police are reviewing missing persons reports.
"We're looking at our records ... we don't believe it (remains) is very recent,'' he said.
"It is early stages. These aren't things we can finalise quickly.
"It is very important we do this thoroughly."
Anyone with information should contact police.
