Bomb scare triggered by laser hair removal device at Australian airport

  • A bomb scare caused a partial evacuation at Avalon Airport, near Melbourne , Australia , after reports of a suspicious package at security.
  • Bomb disposal robots were deployed to investigate a bag on a conveyor belt, which was found to contain an electrical laser hair removal device and “a hot chocolate container”, according to Victoria Police acting inspector, Nick Uebergang.
  • The incident led to the closure of the domestic terminal, resulting in the cancellation of two flights to Sydney and delays for others.
  • A man from Melbourne was temporarily detained but was later released with no charges.
  • Police noted that the passenger's initial lack of cooperation made the investigation “difficult”, while an airport spokesperson praised the “vigilance” of security processes.
