Bolton Wanderers manager Ian Evatt gives 'typical Leeds' comment amid U21 praise

Bolton Wanderers manager Ian Evatt has said that Leeds United Under-21s gave the Trotters 'a good game' after Bolton's 3-0 win in the Papa John's Trophy last night.

Jon Dadi Bodvarsson gave the Trotters the lead after 14 minutes but late strikes from Amadou Bakayoko and Kieran Sadlier secured all three points for Bolton, sending them through to the knockout stages.

The defeat marked the first of the season for the season for the Under-21s but manager Michael Skubala was happy after saying his side 'really matched them' in what was 'a huge test'.

Speaking after the game, Evatt was happy with his side's performance and said that it was key that they didn't underestimate the Under-21s side before coming into the fixture.

“Cup competitions are always about progression and progressing to the next round. We are delighted to do that. Credit to them, everything I saw pre-match from them was very, very good. I think they are having a good season so far. They scored five at Tranmere, so we paid them a lot of respect.

"First half, they were very fast in transition. A typical Leeds team really, you could see the identity and what they were trying to do.

"I thought eventually, once we got to grips with that, we wore them down and they got tired in the second half. But credit to them, they gave us a good game.”
