Over the weekend, Boko Haram insurgents launched a deadly attack on a military post in the Lake Chad region of Chad, resulting in the deaths of 17 Chadian soldiers. The assault also led to the killing of 96 assailants, according to the Chadian army.

In response to the escalating violence, President Mahamat Deby Itno recently initiated a military operation to combat Boko Haram militants in the region. This move follows a previous attack last month that claimed the lives of 40 soldiers and another incident in March that resulted in the deaths of seven soldiers.
Boko Haram, known for its decade-long insurgency against Western education and its goal of establishing Islamic law in Nigeria's northeast, has expanded its activities to neighboring countries in West Africa, including Chad, Cameroon, and Niger.
Chad, a nation of nearly 18 million people, has been grappling with political instability, particularly in the aftermath of a controversial presidential election that saw President Deby Itno emerge victorious. The country has faced challenges both before and after the election, with the president assuming leadership following the death of his father in 2021.
