More bragging rights to the Phibsboro club as Dawson Devoy's magic moment saw off northside rivals Shels at Dalymount Park.
After winning 4-1 at Tolka Park in April, Devoy's superb 13th minute strike separated Bohs from the Reds.
The 54th minute dismissal of centre-back Ciaran Kelly, Bohs' last man when he took down Shane Farrell, turned the contest into one of survival for Keith Long's men.
With debutant keeper Tadhg Ryan thrust into the spotlight, the Gypsies held on, playing smartly in doing so.
Still, it was a case of only just.
As the clock entered the red, Shane Farrell's cross was met in the six yard box by sub Gavin Hodgins - but his touch careered off the bar and went over.
And it was enough for Bohs to leapfrog Damien Duff's charges and move into fifth place.
Devoy was with Ireland's under-21s in Ascoli this week but played no part in their qualifier loss to Italy. Here, he produced this game's nugget of quality with his sixth goal of the season.
Junior Ogedi-Uzokwe, as he did for the majority of the contest, harassed and harried and, after he won the ball off JJ Lunney, it was Liam Burt who teed up Devoy to unleash a dipping shot.
It beat Brendan Clarke at his near post, hitting the woodwork and flying into the net.
At the other end, Ryan was added to Long's line-up after James Talbot suffered a 'significant' shoulder injury on Nations League duty with Ireland.
In front of the visiting fans at the school end, Ryan's first involvement was a nervy one as he kicked to touch. But he quickly settled in after that one shaky moment.
Bohs tested Clarke in the ninth minute, with Burt forcing a decent save out of the veteran. But the keeper couldn't get to Devoy's effort and the visitors were playing catch-up.
They responded well, focusing on getting the excellent Farrell involved on the right and won a series of corners. But it was Junior who next came close, with Clarke parrying his effort.
Moylan blazed over for Shels under pressure from Jordan Doherty after he controlled Jad Hakiki's pass, but the striker should have done better with a free header from Conor Kane's centre.
While both sides threatened early in the second half, Kelly's dismissal saw Shels initially seize the momentum.
Burt was sacrificed to get another defender, James Finnerty, on the pitch but Farrell went close with a free-kick before Ryan did well to block Hakiki's close range volley.
Bohs composed themselves and with Junior and Promise Omochere still provided enough of a threat up front to prevent it being all one way traffic.
But Farrell fired over from a tight angle before Hodgins was the width of the woodwork away from restoring parity.
But it was Ryan who took the plaudits as the end game played out over six minutes of injury time, with the Bohs faithful roaring 'Super keeper' at a new hero.
